KANNAPOLIS — At around 3 a.m. on today, Kannapolis firefighters responded to a working fire at the Motel 6 on Lane Street near I-85. The initial call from 911 reported that a room was on fire.
Units arrived on the scene to find smoke coming from the second floor of the hotel with neighboring occupants self-evacuating. Firefighters gained access to the fire room to find and extinguish the spreading fire while other crews ensured that everyone was out of the building.
Due to the high occupancy risks of the motel, a second alarm was requested for additional manpower. Concord Fire and Life Safety, Landis Fire Department and Odell Volunteer Fire Department, along with Cabarrus EMS and Kannapolis Police provided assistance on scene while Enochville and Cold Water volunteer fire departments assisted with district coverage.
At this time, the cause is still under investigation.
