Yesterday: Boyden High School friends make a beach trip in 1951

Jerry ‘Skeeter’ Lynn provided this photograph of Boyden High School friends who gathered in Myrtle Beach, S.C., in July 1951. Lynn was a classmate, but he is not pictured. A Catawba College graduate, Lynn now lives in Raleigh and is retired from IBM. The classmates in this picture include kneeling or sitting, left to right, Rebecca Marley, Peggy Russell, Dick Smith, Peggy Sweringen, Peggy Barrow (behind Sweringen), Mary Dare Moore, Lois Dunn, Jean Cornelison, Harry Rainey, Mary Jo Workman, Christy Peeler and Jim Gregory. Standing, left to right, are Ted Stroupe, Harriet Leonard, Jim Patterson, Pat Melchor, Don Cornwell, unknown, Bob Chambers, Harry Young, Jennie Snider, Talmadge Broughton, Larry Peniger (on Broughton’s shoulders), Shirley Moose and Cliff Owen.
