SALISBURY — The Rowan County Department of Social Services is accepting applications for help with heating bills.

The Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) provides a one-time, vendor payment to help eligible families and individuals pay their heating expenses.

This is not a crisis assistance program. Each county DSS is allocated a specific amount to help eligible households in their county.

LIEAP applications opened up to the general public Feb. 1 and will end March 31, as long as funds are available.

Rowan County DSS has a large allocation of funds still available; residents do not need to fear they will miss out on this resource due to depleted funds.

To be eligible for benefits, households must have:

• A heating source that is billed separately from rent or mortgage.

• Income under 130 percent of the federal poverty Level.

• Resources under $2,200.

Anyone needing assistance is encouraged to apply at Rowan County Department of Social Services, 1813 E. Innes St., Salisbury NC 28146 Monday–Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
