CHARLOTTE (AP) — The North Carolina Attorney General’s office warns that a gift card scam has reappeared in the Charlotte area.,
The Charlotte Observer reported that some people are getting postcards offering $100 gift cards to Wal-Mart or Target.
The attorney general’s office says the postcards instruct people to call to get details on the offer. When they do, they are told they can get the cards by paying a fee for shipping and handling and providing their credit or debit card number.
Giving up the credit or debit card numbers means the scammers can run up charges on the accounts.
The attorney general’s office says the same thing happened last February.
Those getting the postcards can report it by calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM.
