CLEVELAND — Marcus Kauffman, who was shot earlier this month and taken off life support Friday, will be laid to rest Monday, according to a Facebook post and his obituary.

Kauffman was fatally wounded when he approached two men during a burglary at his home, on Dec. 2 authorities said. Four men have been arrested in connection to the incident.

The Kauffman family will hold a visitation and funeral at Mac Grey Auditorium at 474 N.?Center St. in Statesville. Visitation will be today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m., but an additional viewing will be held at noon for those unable to attend Sunday.

Family, friends and close acquaintances of the Kauffman family will take part in the burial at Cleveland Believers Fellowship, 3700 South River Church Road in Woodleaf.

Kauffman had been in intensive care at Carolinas Medical Center since the shooting. His family decided to remove life support Friday morning after getting the results of a test to determine if there was any brain activity.

After Kauffman’s death, charges were upgraded against two men implicated in the homicide.

Khari Dewayne McClelland, 23, and Jaylend Daquann Turner, 19, were initially charged with attempted murder.

The two were taken from the jail Friday afternoon and escorted to the Rowan County Magistrate’s Office to face new charges of first-degree murder.

Kauffman’s obituary is on 9A.
