CHARLOTTE (AP) — An emergency room nurse in Monroe has been fired after he was charged with child abuse after a child was handcuffed to a porch with a dead chicken around his neck.
The Charlotte Observer reported that Dorian Harper, 57, is no longer working at Carolinas Medical Center-Union. Hospital spokesman Kevin McCarthy would not elaborate on the termination.
Harper was arrested Nov. 7 after a Union County sheriff’s deputy found an 11-year-old boy handcuffed to the porch of a farm house owned by Harper and Wanda Lawson, 57.
She is a former child abuse supervisor with the Union County Department of Social Services. She was fired last week. The agency says she failed to protect children, including the five in her home.
