The Southern Rowan Christmas Parade scheduled for today has been cancelled due to weather and rescheduled for Friday afternoon.

The Friday parade will start at 3 p.m. in Landis and 4 p.m. in China Grove.

One of the parade organizers, who did not want her name used, said the parade would have gone on today as planned if not for a forecast predicting ice and snow around 5 p.m. today.

The organizer said the parade has never before been cancelled.

“But we also never had … possible ice and snow,” she said. “If it wasn’t calling for ice, it would not be rescheduled.”

The organizer said that 65 of the parade’s 101 entrants had already dropped out of the parade before the decision was made to reschedule. She hopes they will take part in the Friday parade.
