Bread Riot is pleased to partner with the Center for the Environment at Catawba College to host a  movie screening of Genetic Roulette, preceded by a local foods tasting and followed by a panel discussion on Tuesday, November 19. The food tasting will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by the movie showing and panel discussion beginning at 6:45.  Panelists are Renée Maas, the senior organizer with the North Carolina office of Food & Water Watch, an organization that connects, educates and challenges people in the Carolinas, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama to stand up for their rights to safe food and clean water, particularly in the face of threatening forces like factory farming and fracking; Edward Marshall, a commercial permaculture-principled farmer in the Appalachian Piedmont who founded We Are All Farmers Permaculture Institute, a non-profit that seeks to increase food and energy resilience through permaculture; and Dr. Christopher Nagy, chief medical officer and director of Your Personal Wellness Center in Salisbury.
The food tasting will include sampling of prepared locally grown foods from Wild Turkey Farms, Bame Farms, SandyCreek Farm, Ashe County Cheese, The Bread Basket and a few others.
