Area Sports Briefs: Blue Bears start hot
Livingstone’s men’s basketball team held off Allen 79-70 in the Johnson C. Smith Tip-Off Classic in Charlotte on Saturday.
Eric Dubois scored 19 points for the Blue Bears (3-0). Mark Thomas had 15 points and six assists. Anthony Welch scored 14, and Jody Hill produced 13 points.

Livingstone’s men’s basketball team won 102-82 against Lees-McRae in a game played in Charlotte on Friday night.
Mark Thomas and Jody Hill had huge nights, scoring 28 and 27, respectively, for the Blue Bears.
Thomas hit five 3-pointers. Hill went 9-for-12 from the foul line and also made four steals. Eric Dubois added 12 points.
Mike Chambers scored 35 points for the Bobcats (3-1).
Livingstone raced to a 58-42 lead at halftime.

Pfeiffer’s men’s basketball team lost 106-87 to St. Augustine’s at Merner Gym on Saturday. Mike Smith scored 33 for the Falcons (1-2), and A.J. Clark had 21.
In South Carolina State’s 38-3 win against Morgan State on Thursday, Javon Hargrave (North Rowan) turned in another dominant game on the defensive line.
Hargrave was in on seven tackles, including four solos. He had 2.5 tackles for loss and shared a sack. He also forced a fumble and recovered a fumble.
• Georgia Tech’s Domonique Noble (West Rowan) made two tackles in a 55-31 loss to Clemson on Thursday.
Catawba was swept at Newberry on Friday. Bri Howard had eight kills to lead the Indians.
• Catawba was swept by Anderson on Saturday. The Indians (4-20, 4-18 SAC) were led by Howard’s 12 digs.
Pfeiffer’s women (13-7-1) lost to Belmont Abbey 3-0 in the first round of the Southeast Region tournament in Hickory.
The Corbin Hills Women’s Golf Association held its awards meeting last week. Awards included the coveted Most Improved Award that went to Treva Honeycutt. For the second straight year, Kristi Laton earned the Points Champion Award.
Sports Junction is hosting a four-week baseball camp starting Jan. 12. Sports Junction general manager Jim Knight will direct the program in conjunction with U.S. Baseball Academy.
