Livingstone College officials say the two students who were shot with a pellet gun over the weekend have been released from the hospital and are OK.

The students, whose names have not been released, have returned to campus, said college spokesman State Alexander.

He said he did not believe the students who were shot were the intended targets, but were caught in a cross fire.

The Livingstone College campus police are continuing to investigate the incident, which occurred about 1:15 a.m. Sunday. The incident occurred after a campus scholarship fundraising event. Officials say the suspects involved were not students, but it is unclear how they got onto the campus.

The injuries the students sustained were not considered serious.

Alexander said one of the students was seen on campus participating in a campus gospel event.

He said students were notified of the shooting, but the campus was not placed on lockdown because the suspects left the campus immediately after the shooting.

He said students still feel safe on the campus.

“It’s regrettable this kind of thing happened, but we are thankful no one was injured to the point of being hurt fatality or otherwise,” Alexander said.

No description of the suspects has been given.
