Kannapolis to break ground Tuesday for new municipal center
KANNAPOLIS — The City Council will break ground on a new 100,000-square-foot municipal center and police headquarters at 10 a.m. Tuesday. The building will be located at 401 Laureate Way on about 6.6 acres of land donated by N.C. Research Campus founder David H. Murdock.
The site faces the David H. Murdock Core Laboratory Building on the Research Campus.
The new municipal building will house administrative offices for all city departments, police headquarters, City Council chambers, and a centralized customer service center. Included in the design is unfinished space for short-term economic development activities and long-term future expansion of city administrative services, as well as 5,500 square feet of public meeting and conference space, both incorporated into the facility to stimulate economic growth in downtown Kannapolis.
Completion of the project is anticipated in September 2015. The project team includes architects Creech & Associates and Rodgers Builders, Inc. as construction manager. Project details are available on the city of Kannapolis website. For more information, call Kannapolis city offices at 704-920-4300.
