MOUNT ULLA — Authorities say a West Rowan High School student took more than $100 worth of snacks from the school concession stand and now is facing felony charges. A school resource officer on patrol spotted the teen leaving the stadium with the bag.

Darius Tumblin, 16, is charged with breaking and entering, larceny and possession of stolen goods, all felonies, the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office report said. He was jailed under a $500 secured bond.

The resource officer, W.R. Walker, was patrolling the school grounds Tuesday when he saw a student, later identified as Tumblin, coming from the football stadium. Walker asked the student why he was leaving the stadium.

Tumblin told the officer he’d left his gym bag in the stadium during physical-education class, the report said. When the officer asked for his name, Tumblin said his name was Darius Jackson. Tumblin also told the officer he didn’t know his P.E. teacher’s name.

The officer called school administrators and asked about a Darius Jackson. School officials said there was no student by that name. An assistant principal was finally able to ascertain the truth from Tumblin, who gave his real name and admitted to taking $169 worth of snacks and drinks from the concession stand, the report said.
