The founder of Gray Stone Day School in Stanly County has been appointed by Gov. Pat McCrory to the N.C. Public Charter School Board.
Helen Nance, who is Gray Stone’s chief administrative officer, will serve as chairwoman of the board in a four-year term.
Nance created the Educational Foundation Campaign that raised money for a down payment on Gray Stone, a news release said. The school is located on the campus of Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer.
She attended Peace College and earned a bachelor’s degree in education at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
The purpose of the Charter School Board is to authorize and oversee high-quality public charter schools throughout the state and to exercise authority for approval of any charter applicant, the news release said.
