Weather permitting, nighttime closures will begin Sunday on Business 85 North in Lexington as the N.C. Department of Transportation sets the girders for the new U.S. 64 bridge over Business 85.
Crews will close northbound Business 85 at National Boulevard each night from 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., beginning Sunday, Sept. 15. The work is expected to be completed by 6 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18.
During the closure, motorists will use the following detour route: Business 85 North to National Boulevard to Burler Street to West Center Street back to Business 85 North.
The work is part of a project to replace the U.S. 64 bridges over Business 85 and U.S. 29/70. The $5.9 million contract is part of the department’s overall bridge program to improve the condition of the state’s bridges, and was awarded to DH Griffin Construction Company in Nov. 2012. The project is expected to be completed by May 7, 2014.
NCDOT urges motorists to pay attention to construction-related signs and allow extra time to reach their destinations safely.
