Rock Hill AME Zion

First Presbyterian Salisbury
Mission Emphasis Sunday at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury will be celebrated during a special service of wholeness and healing at 9 a.m. Sunday in the sanctuary.
Childcare will be available at 8:45 a.m.
Worship is at 11 a.m., and at 4 p.m. the sanctuary choir will present a Choral Evensong, a beautiful choral setting of evening prayer.
The service consists of prayers, scripture, and responses and is almost totally sung or chanted.
Musically, the core of the service is the setting of the two evening canticles, in this case set to music by the popular composer John Rutter.
Other choral music includes “The Secret of Christ” by English composer Richard Shepherd, “Ubi Caritas” by the Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo and the “Preces and Responses” set by modern American composer Craig Phillips.
The theme of the service is prayer and thanksgiving for the successful city-wide dental clinic Missions of Mercy, and Christian mission in general.
The event is about 45 minutes in length and will be followed by a time of refreshment and fellowship on the church patio.
North Kannapolis Baptist
KANNAPOLIS — Homecoming activities will be held at North Kannapolis Baptist Church, 312 Locust St., Sunday in celebration of its 83rd anniversary.
Worship begins at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Ray Pennell, former pastor, as the speaker and Neal Wilkinson of Salisbury as guest soloist.
A traditional covered-dish lunch in McMurray Hall will follow the service.
Dr. Sandra Kern, former pastor at Thyatira Presbyterian Church in Millbridge, will be guest preacher at Spencer Presbyterian Church during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
Kern is an honorably retired minister in Salem Presbytery. Prior to serving as pastor of Thyatira, she served numerous churches in Texas and North Carolina.
The church is located on 1st Street in Spencer off Salisbury Ave. across from the entrance to the North Carolina Transportation Museum.
ROCKWELL — Sunday is Hospitality Sunday at Ursinus United Church of Christ, 118 W. Main St.
It is time to invite and celebrate visitors, new friends and old. There will be cards at the church to write to members who have not attended services lately.
Light refreshments and fellowship will follow the 11 a.m. service.

KANNAPOLIS — Mt.Mitchell United Methodist Church, 6001 Old Salisbury-Concord Road, observes its 150th anniversary with a homecoming service at 11 a.m. Sunday.

CONCORD — The Piedmont Singing Men will present a free Gospel concert at 6 p.m. Sunday at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church, 301 Mt. Olivet Road.
The LeBeaus in concert
MOCKSVILLE — The LeBeaus will be live in concert, at 6 p.m. Sunday in the Blaise Family Life Center, 134 Blaise Church Road.
A love offering will be received.
First United Church of Christ
Brothers Alden and Baron Wright will serve as guest musicians during First United Church of Christ’s 11 a.m. service Sunday.
Alden, 15, will play the organ and Baron, 11, will perform on violin. They are the sons of Brian and Tammy Wright of Faith.
First UCC, 207 W. Horah St., will celebrate the kick-off of WOW (Worship on Wednesday) gatherings Oct. 2. The evening meal begins at 6 p.m.
The evening will include Bible Study, children’s choir, handbell choir and chancel choir.

Mount Zion United Church of Christ
CHINA GROVE - Mount Zion United Church of Christ, 1415 S. Main St., youth will share their leadership and talents during the 11 a.m. service Sunday.
Jonathan Martin, a senior at Carson High School, will be the morning preacher. Natalie Whicker, Aspen Mushala and Sarah Safrit will offer the children’s message. All the youth will participate in a skit titled “Blessings.”
The church will be hosting a poverty meal at 6 p.m. Sunday in preparation for the Oct. 13 Crop Walk in China Grove. All are invited to attend and asked to bring a wrapped peanut butter and jelly sandwich to share and a can of soup for Main Street Mission.

St. John’s Lutheran
CONCORD - St. John’s Lutheran Church will hold its annual Heritage Day at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 12 in the fellowship building, 6200 Mt. Olive Road.
Displays will consists of restored tractors, quilting, chair caning, horse shoeing, early collectibles, oil lamps, historical stamps and envelopes and much more.
Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society, Bost Grist Mill, Cabarrus County Beekeepers and Grace Lutheran Church will have displays.
There will be a dedication of a monument to the slaves who were buried in the cemetery at 2 p.m. At that time, a plaque that designates where the Alpha Synod of the N.C. Lutheran Church was formed will also be dedicated.
Breakfast and lunch, prepared by the youth of St. John’s, will be available.
