DAVIDSON (AP) — An investigation is under way after a body was found inside a Davidson house that caught fire.
Tuesday’s fire brought firefighters from three surrounding towns. Davidson Fire Department Lt. Dion Burleson said water was brought in to the area because of a lack of fire hydrants.
After firefighters brought the flames under control late Tuesday afternoon, emergency crews began a search for the missing homeowner.
Authorities found a body in the house on Wednesday, but the identity hasn’t been released.
The cause of the fire hasn’t been determined.

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — Cumberland County investigators didn’t need to guess at a description of the suspect in a cell phone theft. The suspect provided it himself.
The sheriff’s office said the suspect stole the smartphone on May 17 and used it to take pictures of himself. What he didn’t realize was that the phone automatically archived the photo and uploaded them to a picture-sharing website where the owner could access them.
A sheriff’s department spokeswoman said 33-year old James Matthews of Fayetteville is charged with larceny and possession of stolen goods. He’s free from the Cumberland County Detention Center under a $2,000 unsecured bond.

CHARLOTTE (AP) — A Charlotte man has been found guilty of first-degree murder in the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy almost three years ago.
The Mecklenburg County jury of four men and eight women deliberated for less than two hours Wednesday before returning a verdict in the trial of Ellis Royster.
Prosecutors said Royster fired 11 shots at someone in a car over a $10 drug deal gone wrong. Royster’s attorney told the jury the evidence does not prove Royster fired the fatal shots and accused another man at the scene.
Royster showed no emotion at the verdict. The family of shooting victim Amias Robinson erupted in emotion.
Amias was out with his babysitter riding in his stroller on Aug. 12, 2010, when he was shot twice. He died four days later.

FAYETTEVILLE (AP) — Jurors deliberated for less than 40 minutes Wednesday before deciding that a man convicted of killing a 5-year-old Fayetteville girl in 2009 should die for the crime.
The Cumberland County jury said Mario McNeill should get the death sentence for the slaying of Shaniya Davis. Her body was found in a kudzu patch six days after her mother reported her missing. Investigators say Shaniya’s mother, Antoinette Davis, sold her to McNeill to pay off a drug debt.
