CLEVELAND — Authorities say a Harmony man received money from credit card returns as an employee at a local barbecue restaurant. Investigators with the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office say instead of the former employee placing returns on the customer’s card, he put them on a prepaid Walmart card.

Matthew Alamon Ramseur, 20, of Hickory Grove Road, was charged with nine counts of felony obtaining property by false pretenses.

A deputy received a call from Kathleen Murray, the owner of Keaton’s Barbecue, located in Cleveland, who was alerted by a fraud notification company. The company told Murray someone had completed an excessive amount of returns on the restaurant’s credit card machine. The company said there were more than 15 transactions from April through September that totaled about $1,500.

The returns were placed on a Walmart money card that officials said belonged to Ramseur.

Murray told deputies on Sept. 20 that Ramseur was a former employee whom she said quit for no reason. Murray said Ramseur was “a good employee.”

Deputies contacted Iredell County authorities where Ramseur lived, and they arrested him. Ramseur was then placed into the custody of Rowan authorities on Sunday.

Ramseur remains in the Rowan County jail under a $5,000 secured bond.
