CLEVELAND — One person was taken to the hospital this morning after two vehicles hit head-on at the intersection of Amity Hill Road and Statesville Boulevard, in front of Freightliner.
Josh Tillman, 17, was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle that was struck and was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center by ambulance. Adante Holmes, 16, of Spencer, was driving that vehicle. He was not injured. Both Tillman and Holmes were wearing their seat belts, said Cleveland Police Chief David Allen.
The Jeep was stopped at a red light prior to the crash, heading east on Statesville Boulevard. A Chevrolet Silverado pickup was also stopped at the red light before the crash, heading west on Statesville Boulevard. The crash occurred at 11:41 a.m.
Thomas Arnold, 19, of Florida, was driving the pickup and turned left onto Amity Hill Road and the two vehicles collided. Charges are pending, Allen said.
Arnold had two passengers, a 10-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy, both from Cleveland. The juvenile’s names were not released. All three in the pickup were wearing their seat belts, Allen said.
Cleveland Fire Department and Rowan EMS responded. A Rowan Sheriff’s deputy stopped to assist with directing traffic. The inner lanes on both sides of the road were blocked and traffic was shifted to the outer lanes of Statesville Boulevard.
