Casey and Sandy Parsons may have taken down a for sale sign Thursday, but the couple whose adopted daughter, Erica Lynn Parsons, has been missing since 2011, still have an online real estate ad in place.
Casey and Sandy lived at the 218 Miller Chapel Road home with their children, including Erica, since April 2011. The home is owned by Sandy’s father, William Parsons.
A for sale sign was placed on the front lawn of the property earlier this week, but William Parsons told a Post reporter Wednesday he had not given permission to sell the home. The sign advertised an asking price of $80,000 for the three-bedroom, two-bathroom house.
The sign was removed Thursday, but an online ad on Craigslist remains. The ad is categorized under a general for sale by owner online listing. The ad was posted Monday at 10:17 a.m., a day after the sign was seen in the yard.
The listing says the home includes a “huge building in back that can be used as another house almost.” The ad says the seller needs a quick sale and values the property at $120,000 — but will sell for $75,000. The listing also notes upgrades to the property including a new well that was installed in March, new carpet, and a new central air and heat pump installed 18 months ago. The ad says “everything is completely redone.”
There are a few pictures accompanying the ad, some of which appear to be pictures taken by media who have been at the home throughout the investigation. A Post reporter called the telephone numbers in the ad, but did not immediately receive a response.
The Parsonses’ attorney, Carlyle Sherrill, said he could not comment on the matter.
The couple reportedly moved to Fayetteville weeks ago, but have been seen recently at the Miller Chapel Road home. Sherrill has said the two were between Fayetteville and Salisbury.
James Parsons, Erica’s adoptive brother, reported the 15-year-old missing on July 30. The parents have said they allowed Erica to live with a woman they believed to be her biological grandmother who they knew as Irene “Nan” Goodman of Asheville.
Family members and law enforcement have said Goodman does not exist. Rowan County Sheriff’s investigators along with the FBI and state investigators have been looking for almost two months into Erica’s disappearance.
The Parsonses are expected in juvenile court later this month for a second hearing regarding the custody of their two youngest children. The couple’s youngest children were taken away shortly after the investigation began and placed in the custody of Casey’s mother, Shirley Stone.
Investigators have not divulged any new developments in the case.
The Rowan Sheriff’s Office put up a $10,000 reward for information that leads to the teen’s whereabouts or her return.
