GRANITE QUARRY — Two people were critically injured and a third had minor injuries after a head-on collision on U.S. 52 Friday afternoon in Granite Quarry.
Emergency crews shut down the town’s main thoroughfare for nearly an hour as firefighters and officers worked to clean the significant damage left after the impact.
The wreck happened around 1 p.m. near the intersection of U.S. 52 and Railroad Street.
Witnesses told authorities a white Ford mustang crossed the center line and collided with a blue Ford Focus, Granite Quarry-Faith Joint Police Authority Sgt. Todd Taylor said.
Taylor said two passengers inside the Mustang received the worst injuries. The driver of the Focus is expected to be OK, Taylor said.
After impact the Mustang rolled onto its roof — scarring the cement sidewalk with white paint — before the two vehicles came to a rest along the westbound roadside.
The motorists’ names were not available Friday afternoon.
