SALISBURY — The new marketing specialist and retail recruiter for the Rowan County Economic Development Commission is leaving after six months.
Laura Jollay’s last day is Friday. Jollay has decided to pursue other professional opportunities, said Robert Van Geons, executive director for RowanWorks EDC.
“This was a very difficult decision, as I have an immense love for Rowan County,” Jollay said in a statement. “However, after much consideration, this is the best step for me.”
Jollay told the Post she will be exploring different options but did not have specifics to share. After much soul searching, Jollay said, she decided her departure was best for both herself and the EDC.
She joined RowanWorks in December 2012 as the organization’s first marketing specialist after Salisbury Mayor Paul Woodson asked for a bigger effort to recruit retailers to the city.
The position was created to market both Salisbury and Rowan County to business and industry with the goal of attracting jobs and investment to the area.
During her time with the EDC, Jollay helped to establish a solid foundation of duties and expectations for the new position, as well as implementing new pathways for retail recruitment, Van Geon said.
“The work she has done will continue to help the EDC carry on its mission of marketing our community to new businesses, even after her departure,” he said.
Van Geons stressed that the EDC will remain focused on marketing Rowan County to prospective business opportunities. Jollay helped the EDC build a marketing strategy, he said.
