?Tom Snider and Harold Cartner had been friends since they were teenagers.
The two were also longtime neighbors until Cartner died in May.
Snider and his wife, Ruby, made a Christmas Happiness Fund contribution in honor of Cartner whom the couple said was, “a Christian friend whose many acts of kindness we will always remember.”
The annual fund helps low-income families provide Christmas presents for their children. The program is sponsored by the Salisbury Post, which accepts donations.
The Rowan County Department of Social Services distributes vouchers to eligible families.
The Sniders and Cartner attended the same church, Enon Baptist.
Cartner was a neighbor and helped the Sniders with repair work at their home.
“He has done several favors for us like repairs and electrical work,” Tom said.
Cartner was sort of a “handyman,” Tom said.
He even helped the couuple build a deck for their pool.
“He’s always been there for us,” Tom said.
It was the first time the couple had made a donation to the fun. They chose this year as a way to remember their friend.
Tom said they’ve given money to other local charitable causes throughout the year.
