Board wants to keep school office in East Spencer
The East Spencer Board of Alderman approved a resolution Tuesday to ask county commissioners and the Rowan-Salisbury Board of Education to keep the school system’s central office in East Spencer.
The town says it would support renovation of the building and construction of an office tower behind it. The resolution does not mention funding.
It states that the old school building is historic and is treasured as an icon in the East Spencer community.
“(T)he Town of East Spencer deserves to be considered a stakeholder in the discussions about a new central office, because the economic impact is so vital to our Town, and the emptying of the campus would become a blight on our economic, social and moral cohesion,” the resolution states.
Later, it continues that the town board agrees to use “any manner reasonably available to the Town of East Spencer to accommodate public and private partnerships to renovate the beautiful, historic school building for its executive offices; and to seek planning and zoning that may be necessary to accommodate a modest office tower behind the grand old historic school building that is and will continue to be a source of pride in the Town of East Spencer, ‘The Home of Heritage and Promise.’”
