GRANITE QUARRY — Believing self-government requires people to be engaged and take action, Wes Rhinier has become a first-time candidate for the Granite Quarry Board of Aldermen.
A firm believer in the U.S. Constitution, Rhinier said in a recent letter to the Salisbury Post that without people standing up, fighting and taking part in government, “the system begins to run of its own accord, growing even larger, more powerful and less responsive to those it was meant to serve.”
“Soon the servant becomes the master,” he added. “Sometimes, we have to stand up and cut the monster back down to size. It’s hard. It’s messy. And sometimes, it’s downright scary. But stand up we must.”
Rhinier, 41, is an electronics technician at Dillard’s. He served in the Air Force for five years and is the former owner/operator of Sight and Sound Electronics at 405 S. Salisbury Ave. in Granite Quarry.
“Most people know me as the TV Doc, due to the company logo I had and for the company I worked for after closing Sight and Sound,” Rhinier said.
Rhinier told the Post government has become corrupt at all levels and power needs to be returned to the people.
“I also want to do whatever possible to help small business,” he said. “The tax burden and senseless regulations on small business is terrible, and we need to do whatever possible to help small business grow and prosper.”
Rhinier has lived in Rowan County his whole life, except for his stint in the Air Force. He has been a resident of Granite Quarry for 10 years.
Rhinier graduated from East Rowan High School in 1990. He’s a certified A-plus technician who also attended Community College of Air Force Electronics.
Rhinier and his wife, Elizabeth, have four children: Andy, Connor, Trinity and Zoie.
