Rockwell man killed in weekend tractor accident
A Rockwell man died Saturday following a tractor accident not far from his Old Beatty Ford Road home.
Dennis Goble, 61, of Rockwell, was injured when a tree fell along Organ Church Road, pinning him underneath his tractor.
A Rowan County Sheriff’s deputy was called to the scene around 9 a.m. Jerry Pate, who had reported the incident, was still there.
Pate was calling to a co-worker about the tree, which was in the roadway, when he spotted a tractor in the woods.
Pate said Goble was lodged between the seat and the right back fender well. A Rockwell Rural firefighter was the first responder who attempted to locate a pulse. The firefighter, Christopher Renfrow, told the deputy he was unable to find a pulse or any breathing.
Apparently Goble was on the roadway when the partially rotted tree fell and struck the tractor. It was a calm day with little wind. N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper B.P. Potts investigated the incident.
Goble was a shop manager at Martin Marietta. He and his wife, Le-Nea, were married for 37 years. The Gobles have two children, both of Salisbury, and three grandchildren. See Tuesday’s Post for more details.
