Voorhis - Beaver
LEXINGTON - Ruth Carrie Voorhis and Matthew Dale Beaver were united in marriage Saturday, June 15, 2013, at Sheets Memorial Baptist Church. Pastor Tim Gainey officiated at the 2 p.m. ceremony, which was followed by a reception at the church.
The bride was escorted by her father, Bruce Voorhis, and attended by her sister, Sarah Voorhis Gallucci, matron of honor. Serving as bridesmaids were Adina Beaver Martin, sister of the groom, and Carrie Beaver Kirby, cousin of the groom and best friend of the bride.
Serving as flower girl was Lana Newsome, cousin of the groom. Ring bearer was Mark Gallucci, nephew of the bride.
Dale Beaver stood as his son’s best man. Groomsmen were Alex Straight and Andrew Straight, nephews of the groom. Ushers were Michael Martin, brother-in-law of the groom, and Ethan Martin, nephew of the groom.
Hannah Lewis, Mallory Wilhelm and Tami Hardoby assisted as the guest register and program attendants. Patricia Shoaf served as wedding director. Musicians were Brian and Stephanie Weer and sound was provided by Charles Shoaf.
The bride is the daughter of Bruce and Julie Voorhis of Huntingdon, Pa., and the granddaughter of the late William Keeler of Salamanca, N.Y., and Marjorie Keeler of Buffalo, N.Y., and the late John Voorhis of Portville, N.Y., and Carrie Voorhis Anderson of Barefoot Bay, Fla. She received a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education with a minor in Physical Education from Pensacola Christian College, Pensacola Fla., in 2005. Ruth is a Mathematics teacher and GirlsÕ basketball coach at Sheets Memorial Christian School in Lexington.
The groom is the son of Dale and Marsha Beaver of Rockwell and Dianne and Doug Lynch of Meadows of Dan, Va. His grandparents are the late Edd and Mary Beaver, Rockwell, the late Kenneth Fred Newton, Newport News, Va,, and the late Mr. and Mrs. John McGowan of Cleveland, Tenn. Matt is also the step-grandson of Barbara Mitchell, Preston, Va., and the late Mary Frances Wilhelm Ritchie and Roy Ritchie of Salisbury. He graduated in 2006 from Piedmont Bible College in Winston-Salem and High Point University with majors in Physical Education from both colleges. Matt teaches Physical Education and is the tennis coach at Knox Middle School, Salisbury.
Following a trip to Tybee Island, Ga., the couple are making their home in Kannapolis.
