Dream Weaver School of Real Estate has received its license to operate a private real estate school through the North Carolina Real Estate Commission.

The school will offer the North Carolina pre-licensing course for anyone wishing to become a real estate broker and post-licensing courses for current agents.

The school will also be offering opportunities for licensees who need eight hours of continuing education. Classes will begin in September.

“It has been my dream to own my own school”, says owner and instructor Staci Maher. “We have set our prices to make it affordable for agents. Being a working agent myself I know the importance of watching your expenses.”

Barber shop holding grand opening Sept. 3 at 1313 Main St.

SALISBURY — Made Man Barber and Shave, a traditional barber and shave parlor, will host a grand opening Sept. 3 at 1313 N. Main St.

Owner Brian Hunt said Made Man is the only shop in the area offering hot towel, straight razor shaves.

Throughout the day on Sept. 3, all proceeds at the shop will go to Rowan Helping Ministries. The grand opening event will begin at 6:30 p.m. and feature beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres.

The shop will raffle off prizes from other locally owned businesses, with proceeds going to Rowan Helping Ministries. Guests and customers on Sept. 3 are asked to bring non-perishable food items to donate to the food pantry.

Barbecue rally has 70 teams signed up to compete Sept. 20-21

SALISBURY — More than 70 competition barbecue teams will try to grill their way to victory at the third annual Biker Blues & BBQ Rally next month at Tilley Harley-Davidson.

The event will be held Sept. 20 and 21 at 653 Bendix Drive. The family-oriented event is a motorcycle rally and music festival, combined with a Kansas City BBQ Society-sanctioned BBQ Classic.

So far, 78 teams are registered for this year’s event, organizer Gary Moss said. The 87 certified barbecue judges will come from 11 states to pick the best barbecue in several categories.

The festival will feature seven musical artists and bands, and admission is free. More than 50 vendors are expected to attend.

Every year, the event raised money for area charities. This year’s recipients will be the Salisbury VA Medical Center, Glenn A. Kiser Hospice House and the Folds of Honor Foundation.

Food drive at Govibe in Kannapolis celebrates one-year anniversary

Govibe, a health and wellness studio located at 1740 S. Cannon Blvd. in Kannapolis, is celebrating its one-year anniversary with a food drive of non-perishable items for the Cooperative Christian Ministry and Charity Baptist Church from Aug. 20-Sept. 5.

Donors will receive slips for a drawing for free memberships.

An open house is scheduled Thursday, Sept. 5, from 5-7 p.m. with a drawing for one free month, three free months and six free months of membership.

 Govibe features a studio/spa offering whole body vibration machines, saunas, alkaline water, foot detoxing and massage services. Members range in age from 12 to 87 years old.

Real estate investors to hear from Yon on Tuesday

Rowan Real Estate Investors and Associates will meet Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Bob Yon will unveil a new program he developed to allow anyone to start from scratch and earn an income while learning to invest in real estate.

BJ’s Charitable Foundation grants $5,000 to Cannon Memorial YMCA

CONCORD — Cannon Memorial YMCA recently received a $5,000 grant from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation. Cannon Memorial YMCA will use the grant to fund educational afterschool supplies for the Kannapolis Y Afterschool Program.

“We are incredibly thankful for this grant funding award from BJ’s,” said Jami Eager, program director at the Kannapolis Y. “We provide a four-star licensed program (through the State of North Carolina) to 90 children. The supplies requirement is stringent and these funds will go a long way to help us maintain that licensing.”

“The BJ’s Charitable Foundation is dedicated to supporting hunger prevention, self sufficiency, healthcare and education in the communities surrounding our Clubs,” said Jessica Newman, executive director of the BJ’s Charitable Foundation.

BJ’s Charitable Foundation donated a total of $709,625 to 112 nonprofit charitable organizations during this grant cycle.

“We hope these donations benefit the incredible efforts of our partners working to impact the lives of individuals and families and enable them to continue to provide crucial services to those in need,” Newman said.
