SALISBURY — Novant Health Rowan Medical Center has upgraded the hospital’s inpatient pharmacy, which administers close to 3,000 medication doses each day.

Located within a secure area of Rowan Medical, the inpatient pharmacy now has double the square footage of its previous space, providing more room for new and upgraded equipment to mix, compound and store vital medications, spokeswoman Falon Nye said.

The new space also improves workflow for the pharmacy employees who staff the department around the clock to support patient care, Nye said.

Dr. Carla Kennedy, manager of the inpatient pharmacy, joined Rowan Medical in June. Kennedy previously worked at Iredell Memorial Hospital, leading the pharmacy operations of the Statesville hospital.

As a Rowan County resident and former Rowan Memorial Hospital employee, Kennedy is excited to come “home” to Rowan Medical to lead the pharmacy operations, Fye said.

Kennedy earned a bachelor of science pharmacy degree from UNC-Chapel Hill and doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Florida. She has more than 25 years of experience.

The pharmacy team is focusing on initiatives that streamline medication dispensing at the hospital and support nursing functions to provide more care at the bedside for patients, Fye said.
