A man on probation from a cocaine possession conviction last year was charged with having cocaine and marijuana at a traffic stop on Interstate 85 Thursday.

The Rowan and Iredell county sheriff’s offices, working in a joint interstate enforcement effort, stopped a silver Acura traveling southbound on I-85 for a valid traffic infraction. The driver was Anthony Leroy McMahon, 36, of 5709 River Glenn Drive, Greensboro.

When approached by deputies, the odor of marijuana came from inside the vehicle. McMahon was asked to exit the vehicle and when he did, deputies observed a plastic bag in his waistband. The bag was seized and contained approximately 26 grams of cocaine. A smaller bag held approximately 1 gram of marijuana. In addition, $1,352 in currency was found and seized.

McMahon was arrested and charged with possession with intent to sell or deliver a Schedule II drug, cocaine; misdemeanor possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken before a Rowan County magistrate and placed under a $20,000 secured bond.

He was on probation from a September 2012 conviction for felony possession of cocaine in Guilford County. He also has convictions for felony larceny, misdemeanor possession of marijuana and numerous traffic offenses.
