5 things to do this weekend
Art — The Carolina Artists Multi-media Expo will be on display at the Salisbury Civic Center until 4 p.m. today. Stop by to see nearly 200 piece of art by about 40 local residents. The event is free.
Music — The contemporary jazz group The Brubakers will celebrate the release of their fourth album during a show Saturday at the Looking Glass Artists Center’s black box theater, 405 N. Lee St. They take the stay at 9 p.m. and plan to play until 11:30 p.m. Cost is $10 at the door.
Theatre — The Old Courthouse Theatre will present its first 10 Minute Play Festival at 8 p.m. today and Saturday. The event will feature seven original plays, five of which were written by Rowan County residents. Cost is $15 for adults, $12 for seniors and students and $10 for children.
Railroad show — The N.C. Transportation Museum will host the Historic Spencer Shops Railroad Show this weekend. The event will feature model train vendors, railroading collectibles, model train layouts and guest speakers.
Book signing — Local author George E. Orndorff III will discuss and sign his book “The True Story of Lucky the Squirrel,” from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at The Literary Bookpost, 110 S. Main St.
The book tells the story of how George and his wife have rescued more than 120 baby squirrels and raised them to be returned to the wild.
