CHARLOTTE (AP) — A North Carolina man has died after his long search for his brother’s killer led to an elderly Georgia widow with a dubious past.
Sixty-eight-year-old Al Gentry of Rockwell died Monday. Diane Gentry says her husband had heart problems.
Gentry blames many of her husband’s health problems on the stress of searching for his brother’s killer.
After years of chasing leads, Gentry thought he’d found the person responsible for the 1986 death — Betty Neumar, who was married to his brother and left a decades-long trail of five dead husbands in five states.
Neumar was charged in 2008 with three counts of solicitation to commit first-degree murder in Harold Gentry’s death.
Weeks before her 2011 trial Neumar died of cancer.
Gentry continued to press law enforcement authorities for answers.
