A Salisbury couple were charged with trafficking 62 pounds of marijuana to Salisbury from the West Coast. Investigators seized the “medical grade” marijuana hidden in a false compartment inside a motorcycle trailer at an Ackert Street home.
Thomas Clark Llewellyn, 57, and his wife Danna Ward Llewellyn, 54, both of the 200 block of Ackert Street, were charged with conspiracy to traffic marijuana, trafficking marijuana by possession and trafficking marijuana by transportation. Thomas Llewellyn, who is a convicted felon, was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon. Both have since been released from the Rowan County Detention Center, each under a $25,000 secured bond.
The Special Investigations Unit of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office, along with its Aggressive Criminal Enforcement (ACE) Unit were assisted by the SBI and the Davie County Sheriff’s Office. They served search warrants June 7 at multiple locations throughout Salisbury. Investigators received information that marijuana was being transported to Salisbury disguised as a trip to get motorcycle oil from Blaine, Wash. Investigators discovered the drugs that lined the walls of the trailer were held in place by bungee cords and duct tape. Authorities found additional marijuana in a detached garage. A total of 65 pounds of marijuana were confiscated from the property, valued at $325,000. Investigators also seized $10,057 in cash, drug paraphernalia and a .22-caliber revolver. Thomas Llewellyn is the owner/operator of Starship Engineering, in the 5300 block of U.S. 601, Salisbury.
