RALEIGH (AP) — A portion of Interstate 40 is being reduced to one lane in each direction at Statesville so construction crews can replace a bridge.
The traffic shift begins Tuesday night at 8 p.m. The interstate will be reduced to one lane between exits 150 and 151 to allow crews to replace the Radio Road bridge.
Traffic will be shifted into the median crossovers nightly from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Girders for the new bridge will be put in place as part of the $89.1 million interchange project.
Jerry Higgins of the N.C. Department of Transportation said if the weather permits, this part of the project is scheduled for completion by July 23.
Higgins said speed limits through the work zone will drop to 35 mph.
