WILMINGTON (AP) — Officials at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington are investigating an incident in which a student was taunted by a group of men riding in a truck.

UNCW Chancellor Gary Miller said in a statement that that track and field team captain Brent Campbell was working out on the school’s intramural fields when five men in a blue pickup drove past him several times. The men in the truck made derogatory racial comments.

Campbell is black. The men in the truck were white. The incident occurred Monday.

Miller said in his statement that the school’s police department is conducting an investigation. He said it was particularly upsetting that it occurred on campus and that such incidents won’t be tolerated.
