Authorities charged a Rowan County man with an extensive criminal history with cocaine possession following a joint investigation with local law enforcement.

The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Labryan Dion Hawkins, 27, of West Miller Street, Salisbury, with possess with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, maintain a vehicle or dwelling, possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to appear, driving while license revoked and habitual felon.

He was arrested Wednesday in the parking lot of a BP convenience store at the intersection of N.C. 150 and Jake Alexander Boulevard. Investigators received information Hawkins was in possession of crack cocaine and involved in ongoing drug distribution.

Members of the Rowan County Sheriff’s Office Special Investigations Unit (SIU) and the Aggressive Criminal Enforcement Unit (ACE), along with the Salisbury Police Department conducted a joint operation.

Investigators spotted Hawkins in a vehicle that was parked in the parking lot. A probable cause search was conducted and 3 grams of crack cocaine was recovered from the driver’s side floorboard of the vehicle. Additionally $2,036.31 was seized from Hawkins. Hawkins has since been released from the Rowan County jail under a $26,000 secured bond.

Hawkins has a number of drug trafficking and drug possession convictions. In March, Hawkins and another man were charged with firearms possessions while at a law enforcement road block set up by authorities looking for someone else.

In May 2012, Hawkins and two other men were involved in a police chase that resulted in subsequent drug charges. In 2009, a 20-year-old Hawkins was charged with drug possession following a traffic stop.
