Rowan-Cabarrus Community College will offer an eight-week, fall mini-semester beginning Monday, Oct. 21. Morning, afternoon and evening courses are offered in addition to online classes.
“This is a great time to get started at Rowan-Cabarrus! You can still have some credits accomplished by the holiday season,” said Leslie Brown, Student Government Association president.
The mini-semester includes courses such as expository writing, introduction to computers, argument-based research, western civilization, advanced word/information processing, psychology and sociology.
“The great thing about the mini-semester is that it gives students the opportunity to earn full course credits in half the time,” said Dr. Carol S. Spalding, president of Rowan-Cabarrus. “Between the mini-semester and our continuing education classes that are provided on a rotating basis year-round, students can enroll in courses at any time to get the education they need.”
Classes are intensive and offer the opportunity to complete the courses in a compressed amount of time. Please keep in mind, if you are a student who tends to struggle in classes, you may not wish to take a condensed class. Please talk with an academic advisor for guidance on this and your educational plan. Classes will conclude Dec. 17.
The college will hold mini-semester registration on Thursday, Oct. 17, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Navigation Station on both North and South campuses. Complete an application at www.rccc.edu/onestop/622/apply-to-the-college/ and perform placement testing at least two days prior to registration.
Additionally, financial aid assistance through the federal government takes time to process, so act as soon as possible if you’re planning to utilize this assistance. For complete details, see the Rowan-Cabarrus website at www.rccc.edu/recordsregistration/ or stop in to the Rowan-Cabarrus Navigation Station, the college’s student services one-stop center.
The “Completion Agenda” is a national goal for America to lead the world in college graduates by 2020. Community colleges across the country, including Rowan-Cabarrus, are joining together under this goal in a unified effort to increase the rate of postsecondary completion.
“We want our students to come through our doors and get the certificate, diploma, or degree they need to move on with their careers. Completing courses in a condensed period of time is part of that commitment,” said Spalding.
Rowan-Cabarrus is located at Interstate 85 (exit 75) and Jake Alexander Boulevard, in Salisbury (North Campus) and at 1531 Trinity Church Road, just off I-85 and N.C. 73 at exit 55 (South Campus). For more information about Rowan-Cabarrus Community College, visit www.rccc.edu or call 704-216-7222.
