SPENCER — Reid Walters is running for a third term on the Spencer Board of Aldermen because the job’s not finished, he said.

“I am seeking re-election because I feel there is much more to be done,” said Walters, 37. “This is a moment in Spencer’s history where common sense leadership is needed.”

If re-elected, Walters said his priorities will include:

• Continue to provide elected leadership in Spencer’s partnership with the LandTrust of Central North Carolina in the development of Spencer Woods

• Continue to encourage policy that helps stabilize the character of Spencer neighborhoods

• Continue to advocate on behalf of the N.C. Transportation Museum to the N.C. legislative delegation and current leadership in Raleigh

• Help develop ideas to strengthen the town’s residential base and central business district.

A history teacher at East Rowan High School and property manager, Walters earned bachelor’s degrees in history and political science, as well as social science education, from Western Carolina University.

He serves as chairman of the Rowan County Historic Landmarks Commission and is a member of the Rowan County Parks and Recreation Commission and the Cabarrus-Rowan Metropolitan Planning Organization.

Walters and seven other candidates, including all the incumbents, are running for six seats on the Spencer town board.
