RALEIGH (AP) — The North Carolina Alliance for Retired Americans plans a protest in Raleigh against proposed changes to Social Security that would cut future increases tied to inflation.
The demonstration Tuesday will be in front of the office of Sen. Kay Hagan to thank her for opposing a new formula to calculate inflation adjustments to Social Security payments. One proposal to slow the rise in Social Security benefits and other programs is to measure inflation based on the Consumer Price Index with an accounting method called “chained CPI.”
Organizers say demonstrators at the event will hold hands and form a human chain to protest changing the way Social Security increases are calculated.
The rally in Raleigh will begin at noon.
