Accused fugitive found in Rowan

GRANITE QUARRY — A man accused of being a fugitive from justice was arrested Saturday in Rowan County.
Billy Richard Hopkins, 48, of S. Salisbury Ave. in Granite Quarry, also was charged Saturday with felony fleeing to elude.
According to the arrest warrant, Hopkins was indicted on 18 felony drug charges on Nov. 28 in Virginia. They include possession of controlled substances with intent to manufacture and obtaining controlled substances by fraud or forgery.
As of Sunday night, Hopkins awaited extradition in the Rowan County Detention Center. He was given a $250,000 bond for the fugitive charge and an additional $10,000 for the fleeing charge.
