A Mount Ulla man already in the county jail for his suspected involvement in a theft ring is now being charged with a January larceny.
The Rowan County Sheriff’s Office charged Aldophus Lee Bolen, 36, of the 1300 block of White Road, on Sunday with felony larceny. Bolen has been in jail since his March arrest. Law enforcement officials have tied Bolen to a break-in and subsequent fire at the Piedmont Research Station, multiple battery thefts at Foxwood Golf Club and battery thefts from Myers Forest Products and Spinnaker Contracting. In early April, West Virginia authorities said Bolen took a vehicle there and ran from police. He and several others have been charged with breaking into dozens of homes and vehicles from January to March, taking handguns, jewelry, construction equipment and other items.
Billy Ray Brown, of Mount Moriah Church Road, reported in January he arrived home to see two men in a white Mazda pickup leaving his backyard. In March two Rowan Sheriff’s deputies spotted the same vehicle after making a traffic stop where they arrested Bolen. Investigators were able to connect Bolen to the Mount Moriah Church Road theft where they say tractor equipment valued at $550 was taken. Bolen was given an additional $3,000 secured bond, bringing his total bond to $218,000.
