SALISBURY — Two passengers were taken to the hospital after a head-on collision on N.C. 150 Tuesday morning.

Authorities said the passengers were taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center after a Ford Escape tried to turn left into an auto business in the 5500-block about 11:50 a.m. Both were expected to survive.

N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper D.P. Efird said one passenger from each vehicle was taken by ambulance to the hospital.

The passengers’ names were not immediately available Tuesday.

The winding two-lane road was shut down for about 40 minutes as emergency crews worked to move the patients onto stretchers and clear the vehicles from the scene.

Both the Escape and a silver Chevy Malibu sustained significant front-end damage in the wreck, but Locke Township Volunteer Fire Chief Rusty Alexander said neither patient had to be freed from the vehicles when crews arrived.

The Malibu came to a rest on the eastbound side of the road. The Escape on the westbound side.

It was not immediately clear if charges would be filed in the wreck.
