A great day for Lions Clubs and their appreciative VIPs

Saturday, Dec. 8, was a great day for the Rowan County Lions Clubs. They provided a festive Christmas party and delicious lunch for the VIP’s of Rowan County (Visually Impaired Persons). The attendees were all visually impaired and were treated to a wonderful afternoon with great entertainment from an Elvis Presley singer (Mike Thomas).

Mike has a great professional ability to entertain all who hear his great voice and see his authentic Elvis costume. The audience could easily believe they were listening to the real Elvis perform his favorite songs. Mikee also has the ability to interact with the crowd, making each one feel special. He was tremendous and the VIP’s gave him continuous applause.

It was a wonderful party with the Lions Club members helping serve delicious food to the guests. The meal was prepared by Phyllis Ohm, and the party was held at First Baptist Church. Each VIP received gifts, bags of fruit, a poinsettia plant and a picture with Santa. This was a joy to see, and it was hard to determine who had more fun, the VIP’s or the Lions.

Of all the service clubs, I believe the Lions club does the best job serving others. Of course their motto is: We Serve. May God bless the Lions and all of the VIPs. You should have been there to experience this wonderful party, act of service and celebration of Christmas.

Salisbury
Regular shopper at the mall

I’d like to thank Robert Van Geons, executive director for Rowan Works EDC, for trying to keep our Salisbury Mall open and bring other industrial sites to us around Salisbury and Rowan County.

Belk and Big Lots will leave, but we still have some real nice stores in the Salisbury Mall. I live very close to the mall and go there every week, sometimes twice. I love to shop in the mall, and others come there, too.

In her Sunday (Dec. 2) column, Editor Elizabeth Cook asked the question, “how often do you shop at the Salisbury Mall?”

I realize that Mr. Van Geons has a lot to think about in addition to the Salisbury Mall. We thank him for his efforts and patience.
