CONCORD — Jay White resigned from the Cabarrus County Commission before the end of Monday night’s meeting, citing a conflict of interest between his elected position and his job as partner for a local law firm.

White’s firm, Hartsell and Williams, has submitted a request for quotation (RFQ) to represent Cabarrus County’s Department of Human Services.

“If the county deems it appropriate to discuss this matter further with Hartsell & Williams, P.A., then it would not be appropriate to continue serving as a commissioner,” White said in a county press release.

White was elected to the Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners in November 2006 and re-elected in November 2010. He served as chairman from December 2007 to November 2011 and vice chairman from December 2012 until Monday.
