SALISBURY — A 17-year-old was shot in the foot during an apparent drive-by shooting near South Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue Thursday morning.
Salisbury Police said the teenager was using her phone when she heard gunshots and ran from the scene about 12:30 a.m. Investigators said she was struck once in the sole of her foot after a bullet ricocheted off an object.
Authorities later spoke to three men — originally seen running from the scene — who told officers they may have been targeted at some point in the gunfire.
No other individuals were injured during the incident.
Investigators believe the shooting started near the intersection of South Clay and East Cherry streets. The woman was injured near her home on nearby Knox Street. Police said the 17-year-old was taken to Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Her condition was not immediately available Thursday morning.
Authorities said shots were fired from a blue, older model Buick Cutlass.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the Salisbury Police Department at 704-638-5333 or Rowan County Crime Stoppers at 1-866-639-5245.
