Cooper’s, The Gathering Place, has a new menu and new chef, John Zoet.

Zoet is from Salisbury and is a Johnson and Wales graduate. He spent four years at the Old Post in Missoula, Mont., as kitchen manager and worked several years as sous chef at Luis Benton Steakhouse in Grand Rapids, Mich.

He served as executive chef at Olives Restaurant & Bar in Grand Rapids, as well.

Since his return to Salisbury, he has been part of kitchen operations at the Country Club of Salisbury the past six years.

“While we are known for our delicious burgers, we feel that after two years it’s time to introduce some new and not-so-familiar menu items,” says owner, Joseph Cataldo.

New items include:

• Mahi Mango Tango pan seared on a bed of fresh spinach, topped with mango and orange ginger dressing.

* open-faced shaved prime-rib sandwich.

*watermelon pizza, topped with grilled chicken, basil, port reduction, pistachios, goat cheese.

Also new at Cooper’s, extended hours: Tuesday-Thursday (Wednesdays are now on the weekday menu), 5-9 p.m. for dinner. 5-10 p.m. Friday-Saturday for dinner.

The bar is open until the crowd says it’s time to call it a night. Cooper’s is a full-service restaurant that welcomes large parties and groups. A full catering menu is also available. Visit Coopersofsalisbury.com. Follow on Facebook. Or call 704-795-4907.

Media group forms new coupon publishing entity

News America Marketing, which publishes coupons in U.S. and Canadian newspapers including the Salisbury Post, is launching SmartSource Media Group, which will specialize in planning, printing and placing media advertising in newspapers.

News America Marketing (NAM), a division of News Corp., publishes SmartSource Magazine, the coupon insert found in 74 million homes each week.

It produces more than 165 billion coupons annually.

The new SmartSource Media Group, an outgrowth of NAM’s current Custom Media division, is charged with bringing SmartSource’s planning, printing and placing experience and efficiencies to brands beyond those advertising in the SmartSource Magazine insert. While the SmartSource Media Group is a new division, the company has a 40-year legacy in the media business. The group serves as the agency of record for Procter & Gamble’s BrandSaver and the media placement partner for Dollar General and Five Below.

“We are committed to providing best-in-class client services with a focus on efficiency, effectiveness and reach,” said Angela DiLemme of the new SmartSource Media Group. “The launch of the SmartSource Media Group will give our clients a one-stop shop for all their consumer promotion goals.”

SmartSource has partnerships with newspapers across the country, including the Tribune group, Gannett, McClatchy, Lee, Cox and other chains.
