First United Church of Christ, 207 West Horah St., will celebrate Holy Communion and a Service of Healing during the 11 a.m service Sunday.

During the healing service there are several themes intertwined: God’s word, growth in faith, forgiveness of sin, human touch and God’s love.

Mt. Moriah Lutheran

CHINA GROVE — Mt.Moriah Lutheran Church, 750 Mt. Moriah Church Road, will have a patriotic celebration Sunday beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Patriotic music and a salute of service persons and veterans will be featured.

A picnic will be held at the Efird Shelter following the service.

First Baptist Church celebrates 125th

CHINA GROVE — First Baptist Church is taking six months to celebrate its 125th birthday.

On the first Sunday of each month leading up to the homecoming celebration on Oct. 13, they will be a time to celebrate and learn about the church’s history.

On Sunday, Ruth Wellmon will share information about the building of the present sanctuary and educational facilities between 1955 and 1962.

Services will be held at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

First Presbyterian Church Salisbury

Summer Celebration continues at First Presbyterian Church of Salisbury with Heritage Sunday, a special service to celebrate the heritage of the country and especially the church.

Meet at 9:35 a.m. around the fountain for guest bagpiper Dave McKenzie’s call to worship with the sound of the pipes.

During the 10 a.m. service, music will include early Reformation choral music, Psalm-singing, favorite early American hymns, a medley of Patriotic hymns and the joyful sounds of the Everyman’s Bible Sunday School class.

Sunday School is at 9 a.m. in the educational building.

Community forum for adults

KANNAPOLIS — During Kannapolis First Presbyterian Church’s Vacation Bible School, the adult class will have a forum on “Keeping Up with Our Changing Community.”

Bible school is from 5:45 to 8:15 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday.

Various community leaders will give updates on what is happening in and around Kannapolis, and how citizens and Christians can respond and be involved. The schedule is:

Sunday — Ed Hosack, executive director of Cooperative Christian Ministry;

Monday — Ellen Boyd and Dr. Chip Buckwell, administrators with the Kannapolis City school system;

Tuesday — Mike Legg, Kannapolis City Manager, and Eric Dearmon, president of Downtown Kannapolis, Inc.;

Wednesday — Summary and discussion of next steps, moderated by Kris Edscorn, director of ministries of First Presbyterian Church.

Each evening will begin with a church-wide supper in the Fellowship Hall, beginning at 5:45.

North Main Baptist hosts Royal Fun Faire

North Main Baptist Church, 1501 North Main St. will host “Royal Fun Faire” from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 13.

Free games and activities include a stained-glass coloring contest, Scale The Castle Wall, Glittering Goblets, Gater Bowling, Ye Olde Pin Drop, festival face painting, Guess The Dragon Nails, coloring pages, crafts, Dragon Photo Booth, Pin the Fire on the Dragons Mouth, Javelin Practice and Treasure Toss.

United Ministerial Alliance revival

The United Ministerial Alliance of Salisbury-Rowan will host its annual revival at the Tower of Power United Holy Church, 601 E. Cemetery St., at 7 p.m. July 10 through 12.

Bishop Elvin Mickens Sr., is the guest revivalist. He is a teacher, preacher, visionary, and leader.

Born and raised in Paterson, NJ, he has a bachelor’s in physical education from Livingstone College and a master’s in Biblical studies from New Vision University.

Mickens is a former member of Mt. Calvary Holy Church Salisbury, where he served under Bishop Harvey Rice Sr.

The N.C. Department of Corrections formerly employed Mickens as a clinical chaplain.

Mt. Zion Lutheran

RICHFIELD — Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, 111 E. Church St., will hold its next “Night Under the Stars” on Friday, July 12 beginning at 8:30 p.m.

Everyone is invited to come — rain or shine — for a free family-friendly movie, including popcorn and soft drinks.

Refuge Community Church

COOLEEMEE — Refuge Community Church is hosting a new small group ministry for young women and girls called “Cross My Heart.” It launches Friday, July 12 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. with future groups following monthly.

Age groups will be from 8 to 14 and 14 to 21.

Counselors and facilitators for the small group will be Sister Eutashia Rice and Minister Gloria Dalton.
