Ditch school office dome and install solar panels?

Regarding the design of the proposed school central office:

Instead of a nonfunctional “decorative dome on top of the building,” why not put the money toward solar panels to reduce future operating costs and benefit our environment?

— Dwayne Dvoracek

Editor’s note: The idea of incorporating rooftop solar panels arose earlier this year, when philanthropist Fred Stanback offered to contribute $150,000 toward solar panels if the school office were built downtown.

An engaging play

We went to North Wilkesboro Saturday night to attend the play, “Otto Wood: The Bandit.” We highly recommend it! It’s well worth the 1.5 hour drive and $7 admission fee. The outdoor drama is interesting, fun and accompanied by an entertaining string band. This year’s season has only two more performances: July 5 and 6, 7:30 p.m.

World’s crooked ways

Crooked and perverse should basically describe a percentage of today’s generation. We are fully aware of the fact that this situation has been happening for centuries even as far back as biblical days. However, with each new generation, it seems to worsen, as more and more people turn away from God to serve Satan.

Crookedness refers to the means by which people accomplish their objectives — doing whatever it takes to get what they want. Perverseness refers to the way they distort the truth.

Shortcuts to success are applauded, as well as boasting about how they circumvent the law. Not only do these crooked and perverse individuals distort the truth to protect themselves, they also make false accusations about others.

Two examples of people’s crooked and perverse ways: (1) Faking injuries or causing themselves to have minor accidents while on the job or elsewhere. Usually they do this for the purpose of drawing attention to themselves or to try obtaining money through a lawsuit against people and/or places of employment. (2) Involving innocent people in their schemes of illegal activities, possibly for the purpose of causing other people to be arrested instead of themselves.

Yes, I realize these situations and other evil will continue until the last day. But we must have faith and endure. Most importantly, we need to stand our ground against Satan and not give in to his deception.
