SALISBURY — Code Services Division Manager Chris Branham plans to declare conditions behind the Okey Dokey General Store a general nuisance and ask City Council to set a public hearing.
The council meets at 4 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall, 217 S. Main St.
Branham will ask for a public hearing on Dec. 18. The Okey Dokey is located at 126 E. Innes St.
“In the rear of the property … there continues to be a large amount of debris and storage material that harbors an environment that is unsafe and does not contribute positively towards maintaining public health and general welfare,” Branham wrote in a memo.
Despite attempts by the Code Services Division and the Fire Department to work with the property owners to remove the debris and storage material, a large amount remains, violating city code and state fire code, Branham said.
Branham will request the city abate the nuisance. He said he has bids for $600 and $800 from contractors to remove the debris and material from the site.
The cleanup also will require a landfill fee.
Also on Tuesday, City Council is scheduled to do the following:
• Consider closing a portion of Brawley Avenue and an alley behind 304 W. Corriher Ave.
Neighbors affected by the proposed closure did not agree on the plan when it came before City Council in October. Council members asked City Manager Doug Paris to mediate a resolution.
Paris reports that all parties have reached an agreement, and he now recommends approval.
• Hold a public hearing regarding Salisbury Transit System’s proposed Community Transportation Program grant application.
Council members will consider applying for Community Transportation Program funding and entering into an agreement with the N.C. Department of Transportation to provide necessary certification and the required local match.
This year, the grant provides 52 percent of the money needed to operate Salisbury’s public bus system.
• Hear the 2012 Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.
• Hear about a Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan for Rowan and Iredell Counties and consider authorizing the City Manager to sign an agreement to participate.
• Consider adopting a resolution of intent to update the Salisbury Historic District design guidelines and ask interested residents to serve on an advisory committee.
• Consider restricting parking on the east side of Yorkshire Drive.
• Consider an agreement with RedZone Robotics, Inc. in the amount of $102,500 for the sole-source purchase of a sanitary sewer inspection system.
• Hear about Urban Progress Zones and consider setting a public hearing for Dec. 18.
• Consider appointments to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.
• Hear from the city manager.
