Yesterday: 1962 Class of Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing

Elizabeth Withers Smith of Salisbury provided this photograph of the 1962 graduating class of the Rowan Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was a member of the class. The first formalized training of nurses in professional schools in the United States had begun a century earlier in 1861 in New York City. Included in this photograph are the class mascots in the first row, Brenda Grubb and Darrell Brown; second row, left to right, Linda Whitt, Joyce Brown and Peggy Parker; third row, Violet Smith and Elizabeth Withers; fourth row, Mary Ann Hall, Sara Moore, Barbara Grubb and Carolyn Mason.
