Officers from the Department of Public Safety, along with local and federal law enforcement officers, arrested 33 people this past week and seized drugs and guns from offenders on probation and parole during “Operation I-85 South,” a warrantless search operation in Rowan, Cabarrus, Mecklenburg and Gaston counties.
The operation began Monday, June 3 and ended Friday, June 7.
Three of those arrested were in Rowan County.
The officers executed warrantless searches at the homes of 116 offenders on probation, parole or post-release supervision.  Many offenders on probation or parole are subject to warrantless searches as a condition of their supervision.
“Operations like this make it clear to probationers and parolees that conditions of supervision will be strictly enforced, and illegal activity will not be tolerated,” Public Safety Secretary Kieran Shanahan said in a news release.
Agencies participating in “Operation I-85 South” included the Salisbury and Kannapolis police departments, the Rowan and Cabarrus sheriff’s offices, U.S. Marshals Violent Offender Task Force, FBI Safe Streets Task Force, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Gang Unit and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, along with local agencies in other localities.
Seizures during the operation include various amounts of marijuana, cocaine and heroin and five handguns.
Arrested in Rowan County were:

• Kenneth Dwight Carpenter, 29, charged with possession of firearm by felon, possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver drugs, and two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver drugs.
• Quincy Lamonte Love, 21, charged with probation violation.
• Lonnie Ray Carpenter Jr., 25, charged with misdemeanor possession of drugs.
